The website ‘Araneae of India’ provides an overview of spider diversity in India. It enlists all available published taxonomic papers and distributional records. The number of spider species known from India has steadily increased from 1067 species (Tikader, 1987), 1442 species (Siliwal et al., 2005), 1520 species (Sebastian & Peter, 2009) to 1686 species (Keswani et al., 2012). Presently, 1981 species belonging to 515 genera in 63 families are known. This list has been updated in accordance with the latest version of the World Spider Catalog.
Users will be able to explore a wealth of information related to spiders in India. The site is up-to-date and reliable. Additionally, the site also features an ‘Updates’ section, keeping users informed about the latest discoveries and taxonomic changes. Whether for experts or spider enthusiasts, this site will be an essential reference for understanding and exploring the fascinating world of these arachnids in India.
